I was given the challenge of creating a vehicle that was insect-like in design. I thought about it for a while and decided upon a submersible type vehicle. At first I considered a multi-terrain vehicle, land air and water and thought about which insects would best fit the vehicle eventually deciding upon a beetle. As I began mocking up designs, I quickly dropped the multi-terrain aspect and opted solely on a water based vehicle design. Bored of attempting realistic style paintings, today I decided to do a quicker, simpler practice with my oils. I wanted to let the paint speak for itself and retain some of the raw qualities that I have found myself painting off the canvas as of late.
Continuing with my Jim Dine study from the week before, today I made three more observational drawings of tools.
Today I paid homage to an artist named Jim Dine and his portrayal of tools in a variety of media. Dine was born in America in 1935 and is considered one of the founding pop artists of the 1960’s with his art focussing mainly on clothing and domestic objects at the time. Continue reading “Jim Dine Tool Study #1”
