I was tasked with creating a cover for my portfolio and after a little bit of thinking decided upon the idea of including as many self portraits as I could to highlight my passion for portraiture as well as painting. Inspired by Richter’s use of distortion within his art whether it be portraiture or abstract, I decided to paint another distortion portrait. I thought it quite strange how my first distortion portrait was so eerily similar to the effect in Richter’s “photo paintings” and this time attempted to emulate it more closely. There was an old mirror in my garden that had been there for a long time and had become very dirty and grimy and I think it created quite a cool effect for the subject photo which was taken roughly three to four years ago whilst I was sporting a Mohawk type hairstyle.
