Overview

The history of image manipulation can be dated back to the early 1800’s at the invention of the first photograph but it can also be dated back further when we consider other forms of imagery not limited to photography. Throughout the next few paragraphs I aim to detail notable examples of image manipulation in a somewhat chronological order.

Valerie Hegarty is an American artist born in Vermont. She works with a variety of realistic looking art installations that include paintings, sculptures and conceptual art; often including elements of decay and destruction. Some of her pieces incorporate natural decay such as water damage, roots or branches. Others have aspects of artificial decay, with fire damage and melting being a prevalent throughout many of her artworks.

Aberfan 1966-2016

I was tasked with creating an A3 size poster to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster that took place, 21st October 1966. I wanted to create a piece that visually portrayed sadness, the loss of life and erasure of memories.
